Astros Purchase Contract Of Infielder Saccomanno

HOUSTON, TX - The Houston Astros announced today that the club has purchased the contract of Mark Saccomanno from Triple A Round Rock. The club also intends to purchase the contract of right-handed pitcher Dave Borkowski from Round Rock tomorrow. The announcements were made by General Manager Ed Wade.

The 28-year-old Saccomanno hit .297 (157x528) with 27 home runs, 33 doubles and 84 RBI in 137 games for Triple A Round Rock in 2008. The Pacific Coast League All-Star led the Express team in home runs, games, doubles and runs (83). Selected by Houston in the 23rd round of the June 2003 Draft, Saccomanno set an Express record this season by hitting a home run in three consecutive at-bats on May 31 and June 1. He was named Round Rock's Offensive Player of the Month for August and May.

Saccomanno will be available for tonight's game against Pittsburgh at Minute Maid Park, with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.

Borkowski, 31, posted a 2-2 record with two saves and a 2.43 ERA (11ER/40.2IP) in 27 games (one start) for Triple A Round Rock in 2008. In 22 games for Houston this season, he posted a 7.45 ERA (24ER/29IP). Borkowski owns a 5.83 ERA (220ER/339.1IP) in 177 career games (21 starts) for Detroit (1999-2001), Baltimore (2004) and Houston (2006-08). This is his third stint with the Astros this season. Borkowski will join the team in Houston on Tuesday.
