
Casper Wells of the Erie SeaWolves named Eastern League's Player of the Month for August

Portland, ME - The Eastern League is pleased to announce that Casper Wells, an outfielder for the Erie SeaWolves, has been selected as the Eastern League Player of the Month for the month of August. The 23-year old had an outstanding month for the SeaWolves, hitting .345 (38-for-110) with 10 doubles, four triples, 10 home runs, 27 RBI, 34 runs scored, 11 walks, two stolen bases, a .430 on-base percentage and a .782 slugging percentage in 28 games during the month. Wells, who is a native of Grand Rapids, Michigan, reached base in each of the 28 games that he appeared in during the month, recorded 11 multiple hit games and had two nine-game hitting streaks. Casper led the league in a number of offensive categories during the month, including home runs, RBI, runs scored, slugging percentage, total bases (86) and OPS (1.212). He also finished tied for the league lead in hits during the month with his teammate Will Rhymes.
Wells joined the SeaWolves on June 6th following a promotion from the Class-A West Michigan Whitecaps, where he was selected as a Midwest League midseason All-Star. The 6'2", 210 lb. slugger played in 75 games with the SeaWolves following his promotion and batted .289 with 18 doubles, six triples, 17 home runs, 60 runs scored and 53 RBI. Despite not joining the league until midway through the year, Wells still finished tied for 10th in the league in home runs.
Casper, who was the Bank of America Eastern League Player of the Week award for the week ending August 11th, was selected by the Detroit Tigers in the 14th round of the 2005 draft out of Towson University, where he was named the Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year after hitting .362 with 18 homers and 66 RBI.
