
Four-Run Seventh Brings Bears 4-3 Win

NEWARK, NJ - A four-run seventh inning carried the Newark Bears to a 4-3 win over the Long Island Ducks at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
With no outs and runners on first and second, Ramon Nivar plated Randall Simon with an RBI double. Ramon Castro then tied the game 3-3 with a bases-loaded two-RBI single. The Bears took the lead on an RBI single by Will Otanez. Raul Gonzalez led the Bears offensively, going 3-4 with three singles and scoring one run.
Two home runs were the source of the Ducks' 3-0 lead after six innings. Damian Rolls hit a solo shot in the second to put the Ducks on board, and then Dennis Donovan contributed a two-run homer in the fifth.
Starter Roberto Giron (1-2) pitched seven strong innings to earn his first win of the season. He allowed the Ducks' three runs on five hits, struck out six, and walked one. Reliever Andy Shibilo struck out one and induced a ground-out in the ninth inning to earn his fifth save of the season. Jose Paniagua (3-1) held the Bears scoreless through six innings but earned all four runs in the seventh inning to pick up the loss.
The Bears conclude their series against the Ducks tomorrow afternoon with a 1:35 game. Jose Garcia (8-4) will take the mound for the Bears, facing Abe Alvarez (6-1).
