Bluefish Add Connolly to Pitching Staff

Bridgeport, CT - July 1st- The Bridgeport Bluefish of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball announced the signing of pitcher Mike Connolly. The left-hander brings eight seasons of professional baseball experience to the Bluefish pitching staff. Connolly, 26, was a 19th round draft choice of the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2000. Primarily used as a starter, the southpaw has 148 starts in 204 minor league contests. Connolly has two stints at the AAA level with the Pirates. In 2005, he split the season between AA Altoona and AAA Indianapolis. He started 15 games (84 innings) for Altoona and posted a 5-6 record with a 3.32 ERA, limiting batters to a .271 average while striking out 60 and walking 24. After the call to AAA, Connolly went 2-4 with a 4.42 ERA in 13 starts (71.1 innings) with 44 strikeouts and a .268 average against. The lefty ranked in the top ten in his league in ERA in both 2002 (single-A Lynchburg, 2.94 ERA) and 2003 (Altoona, 3.39 ERA). Overall, Connolly has a career 56-54 record in the minor leagues with a 4.11 ERA, 699 strikeouts and a .265 opponent batting average. Connolly signed with the Bluefish in April and was with the team in spring training but left before the season started to join the Sinon Bulls of the Chinese Professional Baseball League in Taiwan.
