Lancaster JetHawks News Release
(ADELANTO, CA) - Baseball is often a game of who makes the fewest mistakes- even in games filled with mistakes. Both teams committed five errors, but Lancaster tallied a season-high 21 hits and got good relief pitching from Cody McAllister and Richie Lentz as the JetHawks beat the Mavericks 12-9. Lancaster finished its strongest month of the season with back-to-back wins. They went 15-10 in June. Especially impressive, they won eight of their ten games on the road.
The game was sloppy by both teams early. High Desert committed a throwing error in the first inning. The next three JetHawks all hit singles, leading to three runs. A Jason Place homer in the second helped Lancaster open a 5-0 lead.
Lancaster gave it back over the next two frames. They made two errors on the same play in the second inning- a play in which a High Desert base running error should have ended the inning- and helped the Mavericks go up 6-5.
The JetHawks did not need any help in taking the lead back for good. They hit six more singles in the fourth inning to score three times and led the rest of the way. While the Mavericks would keep the game close, Lars Anderson's three-run homer in the seventh inning helped give the JetHawks enough room for the bullpen to hold on.
The relievers threw well. Cody McAllister should have had two perfect innings, but errors in consecutive at bats allowed three runs across. Richie Lentz, however, was overpowering in his two innings, striking out three and earning his first save.
Offensively, several JetHawks had big nights. Luis Exposito had a career high five hits with two RBI while Aaron Reza had a personal best with four hits. Place, Anderson, and Zak Farkes each had three hits.
The JetHawks continue a four-game road trip Tuesday night against High Desert. Travis Beazley (3-8) starts for Lancaster while the Mavericks have not announced their starter. The game starts at 7:05 PM. The radio broadcast on Magic 1340 AM and online at www.JetHawks.com kicks off the coverage at 6:50.
Individual game tickets for all JetHawks home games, including playoff games, are available in person at the JetHawks Box Office Monday - Friday from 10 AM - 5 PM or Saturdays from 10 AM - 3 PM. Great ticket packages for multiple games are also available starting at just $56 for eight games. More information can be found on-line at www.JetHawks.com.
