Boise wins over Stockton

STOCKTON, Calif. - Casey Allen's 8-yard touchdown reception with 11 seconds left helped the Boise Burn erase a nine-point deficit in the last minute of regulation and cap a 13-0 run to send the Stockton Lightning (2-10) to a 55-51 loss before a crowd of 3,921 at Stockton Arena on Saturday in Week 13 of arenafootball2 play.

The Lightning assumed a commanding 27-21 lead at halftime, led by three touchdown passes by QB Andy Collins, who threw for a season-high five touchdowns in the game. Collins connected with B'Jay Jones on the first scoring play of the game, a five-yarder with 9:03 left in the first quarter.

Rookie WR Ruben Jackson then traded touchdown scores with Boise's Shadrach Okoebor, with Jackson scoring the first pro TD of his career on a 17-yard missile by Collins to the left corner of the end zone with 13 minutes left in the second stanza to put the Lightning ahead 14-7.

The Lightning finished a 19-0 run entering the third quarter on WR Justin Taplin's second of two touchdown catches in the game, a 39-yard, fourth-down bomb to the right side of the field which had Taplin shedding a defender at the five-yard line to put the Lightning ahead 33-21 with 11:02 left in the third quarter.

The Lightning built a 51-42 lead in the fourth quarter after two rushing touchdowns by Collins, leading to Boise's rally which started with 36 seconds left in regulation on Garrett Smith's 3-yard pass over the middle of the end zone to draw the Burn to within a 51-49 deficit.

Levi Madarieta, a linebacker and offensive lineman by trade, then booted an onside kick to the 15-yard line that Boise recovered, setting up QB Royal Gill's 8-yard touchdown strike to Casey Allen with 11 seconds left to put the Lightning into a 55-51 hole.

Boise then stopped three Lightning pass attempts to seal the game.

The Lightning receivers were led by Taplin, who garnered eight catches, a game-high 116 yards and two touchdowns. Collins threw for 265 yards, five touchdowns and a 22-for-37 effort while Gill led Boise's passing attack with six touchdowns, 288 yards and a 24-for-41 passing effort.
