Boston Cannons To Open Eighth Season On Saturday

BOSTON, MA - Friday, May 16, 2008 - The Boston Cannons (0-0) of Major League Lacrosse (MLL), will open the 2008 season, their eighth as an organization, when they take on the New Jersey Pride (0-0) at Harvard Stadium on Saturday, May 17 at 7:00 PM.

CANNONS IN 2007: The Cannons finished the 2007 season with a 5-7 record, missing the postseason for the first time in their seven-year history. The Cannons posted a record of 3-3 in their home venue, Harvard Stadium, where the team moved to at the start of the 2007 season.

CANNONS VS. NEW JERSEY IN 2007: The Cannons faced-off against the New Jersey Pride twice during the 2007 season and earned a record of 1-1 against the Eastern Conference opponent. The Pride got the better of the Cannons in the first match-up, defeating the home team by a score of 13-10. Pride attackman Conor Ford led the way with five goals to earn the Bud Light MVP award in the contest. The two teams faced each other again the following weekend in New Jersey, with the Cannons earning a 16-13 victory in the rematch. Midfielder Brett Bucktooth scored six goals and added one assist to collect the Bud Light MVP honors and attackman John Christmas chipped in with a goal and four assists.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR: The Cannons have played against New Jersey in four of their seven season-opening games, and have a record of 1-3 in the four contests...The Cannons are 4-3 all-time in their season-opening games, with a record of 2-1 at home...The last time the Cannons opened the season at their home venue was in 2004, when they defeated Long Island by a score of 17-16 during their first season at Boston University's Nickerson Field. The Cannons have yet to name a starting goalie for the 2008 season, and will use both of the goalies on their active roster - Jake Coon and Kip Turner - in Saturday's game...The Cannons have five new players on their 23-man roster to start the 2008 season...Midfielder DJ Andrzejewski will miss the first two games of the season due to injury.

CANNONS ON TV: Saturday's game versus New Jersey will air live on Comcast SportsNet New England. For the first time in the organization's history, all 12 Cannons games will be televised in the New England area in 2008, and 11 of the 12 games will be aired live. Three networks - Comcast SportsNet New England, CN8 and ESPN2 - will combine to televise the games. Cannons television play-by-play announcer Jason Chandler and color commentator Jack Piatelli will return to broadcast the Cannon's games this season.
