Chillicothe Paints News Release
The Chillicothe Paints are winding down spring training this weekend with a trio of exhibition games at Washington, PA before returning home to host the same Washington Wild Things in the 2008 Frontier League season opener at V. A. Memorial Stadium on Sunday evening. Game time is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
A gigantic fireworks show will follow the game.
Second-year Paints' manager, Mark Mason, is pleased with what he has seen so far in the spring training workouts.
"We have a very solid nucleus of seasoned players returning, led by the league's MVP, Travis Garcia," noted Mason. Our infield with Garcia (.307, 19 HR, 70 RBI) at shortstop, veteran (Adrian) Cantu (.303, 13 HR, 61 RBI) at third, newcomer and former Kent State U. All-American, Drew Saylor, at second base, and returnee, Jon Poterson (.231, 27 2B, 65 RBI) holding down first base.
Travis Storrer, (.262, 18 2B, 46 RBI) the former Clemson U. standout, returns to cover right field and Jaziel Mendoza, (.295, 5 HR, 24 games) who is coming off rehabilitation from a broken hand in 2006, will roam in left field.
Rookie, Montana Dye, has earned the starting position in centerfield, following an excellent spring training performance. The catching position will be secured by former Atlanta Braves farmhand, Bubba Garcia. Returnee, J. T. Thomas is the front runner to be in the designate hitter's slot and lead off the batting order.
Several pitchers from last year's staff return as well, spearheaded by reliever, Ryan Flanigan (9-2, 1.28) and starter, Brian McCullough (4-2, 2.01).
Season tickets and "You Pick âem" Mini-Ticket plans can be purchased at the Paints' Gift Shop in downtown Chillicothe, or by calling (740) 773-TEAM (8326).
