PARK CITY, UT (Sunday, May 11, 2008) - Three unanswered goals in the second half would lift the FC Dallas Reserves (1-1-1, 4 pts.) to their first win of the 2008 MLS Reserve Division campaign, a 5-3 triumph at the Real Salt Lake Reserves (1-1-1, 4 pts.) in an entertaining affair this morning at the Quinn's Junction sports complex in Park City. After falling behind 3-2 just prior to the halftime break, scores after the whistle by FCD's Chase Wileman, Aaron Pitchkolan, and Dominic Oduro would lift the "Hoops" Reserves to the victory.
Both teams struggled to adapt to the windy conditions at the game's onset, but the floodgates would open halfway through the opening stanza, with FC Dallas midfielder Bobby Rhine finishing Eric Avila's pass in the 22nd minute to put the visitors on top. But the match would even up just three minutes later when RSL Reserves midfielder Kevin Reiman played forward Robbie Findley behind the Dallas backline, the RSL striker finishing low and to the right of charging FC Dallas âkeeper Mike Graczyk, bringing the game to 1-1. FC Dallas would retake the lead in the 29th minute when RSL netminder Chris Seitz's save on Oduro's close range shot deflected off of RSL defender Nik Besagno and past Seitz, the own goal putting the Hoops ahead once again.
Findley would look dangerous once again in the 39th minute, his run into the area ending with a Pitchkolan foul and an RSL Reserve penalty kick, which midfielder Matias Cordoba finished low and inside the right post to even up the proceedings at 2-2. Real Salt Lake, which put up five goals against the LA Galaxy Reserves last weekend, continued its scoring binge one minute inside the break behind forward Yura Movsisyan, who finished Cordoba's lofted pass with a strike from 20 yards, giving the home side its first lead of the match at 3-2.
The scoring would again wait more than 20 minutes to start up in the second half, but unlike the back-and-forth first 45 minutes, the scoring would all fall to FC Dallas. The comeback started in the 68th minute when Wileman collected a deflected ball on the right endline and, similar to Kenny Cooper's goal in last night's regular season affair between the two sides, slotted home past Seitz from a nearly impossible angle to even up the score at 3-3.
The RSL Reserves would rotate goalkeepers in the 76th minute, but the onslaught by the visitors would give new âkeeper Kyle Reynish little time to get comfortable as Pitchkolan made his effort up-field pay off in the 77th minute. The FCD defender took advantage of a failed clearance off a corner kick by stroking a 20-yard shot just inside the left post, allowing FC Dallas to go ahead for a third time at 4-3. This time the Hoops would not relinquish its advantage, instead adding an insurance goal on an Oduro breakaway in the 92nd minute to secure the three-point result on the road.
