Sioux Falls to Host 2009 Prospects/All-Star Game
Published on April 30, 2008 under United States Hockey League (USHL) News Release
GRAND FORKS, N.D.: The United States Hockey League has announced that the Sioux Falls Stampede has been awarded the 2009 USHL Prospects/All-Star Game.
The game will be played on Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at the Sioux Falls Arena. The corresponding banquet will be held the previous night, Tuesday, February 3. The entire event is in conjunction with the 10th anniversary of the Stampede as a member of the USHL.
"The first time the Stampede hosted the all-star game was when the bar was raised. That's when it went from being just a game to an event," said USHL president Gino Gasparini. "The job that they did the first time around is when they put pressure on other teams that hosted the event to really take things to a new level. I have nothing but confidence in the fact that Jim (Loria) and his staff will raise that bar even higher the second time around."
The Stampede first hosted the event in 2002. Then, hockey legend Gordie Howe was the keynote speaker at the banquet. The following night, the sold-out crowd was treated to an 8-3 win for Team World. The hometown team had seven players taking part in the game and Stampede superstar Thomas Vanek was named the game's Most Valuable Player.
More details regarding the 2009 USHL Prospects/All-Star Game and banquet will be available in the coming months.
