Edmonton Chill News Release
The Chill played their final exhibition game last night at McNally High School and again proved just too big, strong and quick for the All-Stars as they rolled to a 152-103 victory. The Chill's opponents kept things tight and were within four points mid-way through the first quarter before Head Coach Paul Sir called a timeout and set things right. The Chill came back out with their game faces on and built a 29 point lead at the half. JR Patrick led the Chill with 38 points and served up an alley-oop off the backboard to the U of A's Andrew Parker whose dunk brought down the house, and nearly the rim. The crowd also got their first look at 6'11" Lee Scruggs who showed his entire game, hitting several deep jumpers, blocking shots, and rebounding. He also drew cheers with a terrific spin move in the lane for a layup. Teon Knox, Rashaun Broadus, and Andrew Parker all eclipsed the 20 point barrier as well.
Just a reminder that the Chill will open this weekend with games Saturday and Sunday against the Bellingham Slam, with both games starting at 7:11pm at the Grant MacEwan Gym (10700 104 St.). Tickets are going fast so we urge folks to drop by our office between 9-5pm today, tomorrow, and Saturday (7915 104 Street, Suite 200) to avoid being shut out on Saturday night.
Finally, the Edmonton Chill announced the release of forward Eric Crookshank. The 6'7" Oakland, CA native returned home on Sunday following a three day tryout with the club.
"No question that Eric had the ability to play in this league, " Owner and President Troy Barns said, "but at the end of the day, our players' behaviour reflects on this club, so I had to be sure he was committed to the full scope of responsibility of playing here. [After passing on last weekend's trip to Fort McMurray] It became clear to me and the coaching staff that Eric just was not a fit for our team or the basketball community here in Edmonton. We wish him luck with the rest of his career."
