Sioux Falls Storm News Release
The Sioux Falls Storm of United Indoor Football (UIF) has added linebacker/defensive end Jermaine Petty to bolster the Storm?s defense. The Storm defense is currently ranked #2 in the league in points allowed as they are allowing 31.7 points per game. This season will mark Petty?s eighth season of professional football as he has spent time in the NFL, NFL Europe, Arena Football2 and the Arena Football League.
Petty comes to Sioux Falls after finishing fourth in Arena Football2 (af2) in sacks during the 2007 season. Petty recorded 13 sacks and added 18 tackles for loss, which also ranked fourth in af2. Following the season Petty was named to the All-Arena Second Team. Petty?s Quad City Steamwheelers finished the season 10-6 and qualified for the af2 playoffs. Prior to the 2007 season, Petty spent training camp with the Columbus Destroyers of the Arena Football League (AFL).
Petty started the 2006 season with the Green Bay Blizzard of af2. He was traded to Quad City midway through the season. Petty wasted little time making his impact felt on the defensive side of the football as he quickly took over the lead in several defensive categories. He finished the season leading the Steamwheelers in forced fumbles (4), sacks (5.0) and was tied for the team lead in tackles for a loss (5.0). Petty led the team in these categories despite playing in only six games.
During the 2004 season, Petty was on the roster for the LA Avengers before being traded to the Indiana Firebirds of the AFL. Petty finished the season on the practice squad of the Firebirds.
Petty played the 2003 season for the Scottish Claymores of NFL Europe. He was allocated to the Claymores by the Green Bay Packers who signed Petty in January of 2003. Petty recorded 19 tackles for the Claymores and was released by the Packers during training camp of 2003. Petty was signed as an undrafted free agent in April of 2002 by the Cincinnati Bengals. The Bengals released Petty in training camp that season.
Petty played in college at the University of Arkansas. Following his senior season in 2001 he was named First Team All-American by the American Football Coaches Association and First-Team All-Southeastern Conference (SEC). In his senior season, he led the SEC in tackles and ranked 13th in all of NCAA Division-I football with 140 tackles. During the 2001 season, Petty was named the National Defensive Player of the Week two weeks in a row. He is the only player in NCAA history to accomplish that feat. Petty played in 33 games from 1999-2001 for the Razorbacks.
