Portland Lumberjax News Release

PORTLAND - The Portland LumberJax have signed former defenseman Bruce Alexander to a one-year contract, Head Coach/General Manager Derek Keenan announced today. The contract is pending league approval. With the franchise in 2006 and 07, Alexander rejoins the squad as the team's sixth leading scorer (67 points) and remains fourth all-time in assists (49).

An All-Star in 2007, Alexander scored six goals, added 16 assists and collected 44 loose balls last season for Portland. The 6'5", 250 lb. physical force will add additional depth to a Jax defensive squad that has only allowed 12.18 goals-per-game this season.

"Bruce knows our system and has kept himself in great shape", said Keenan. "He's also a very positive locker room presence and provides great leadership."

An eight-year National Lacrosse veteran, Alexander has scored 73 career goals, added 165 assists and scored 238 points while collecting 307 loose balls and logging 108 penalty minutes.

Alexander's signing fills a vacant roster spot after the Jax traded away defenseman Ian Crashley and goalie Matt King for goalie Matt Disher.

"When you're battling for a playoff spot, the experience Bruce brings is invaluable," added Keenan.
