Salem, VA - The Salem Avalanche, Advanced Class-A affiliate of the Houston Astros, will hold its Fifth Annual FanFest on Saturday March 29th from 10 AM until 2 PM at Lewis-Gale Medical Center Field at Salem Memorial Baseball Stadium.

Admission is free, and all fans are encouraged to celebrate the upcoming 2008 season with the Salem Avalanche staff. The Event will take place rain or shine.

"This is one of our staff's favorite events," said John Katz, Avalanche Vice President / General Manager. "It gives us the opportunity to show off the ballpark, and gives Avalanche fans a chance to walk around the park, eat some lunch and play in the BB&T Kids Zone."

Attending fans will receive free lunch, featuring Valleydale hot dogs, Utz potato chips and ice-cold Pepsi products. If you're looking for Katz, you'll find him behind the grill.

"It's a great way to meet new fans and say hello to old friends," said Katz. "It's become a tradition."

Among the events to highlight this year's festivities is a coloring contest for kids, along with the zany antics of Ziggy the clown - a fan-favorite from FanFest 2007. Kids will also have the opportunity to have their picture taken with the lovable cast of characters that take the field with the Avalanche - Mugsy, Misty and Big Mo.

Representatives of the Avalanche will be on hand to escort fans on all-encompassing tours of Lewis Gale Medical Center Field and Salem Memorial Baseball Stadium. The Avalanche will also hold a sidewalk sale with classic team merchandise.

Fans of all ages will also get to jump and play in the newly-expanded BB&T Fun Zone. New additions for 2008 include a Tee-Ball Challenge and an all-new Mega Jumper. Parents will also enjoy the security of a fenced-in area.

In addition, fans will be able to help the less fortunate in conjunction with Opportunity Through Baseball. All fans that donate new or gently-used baseball equipment will be given a free ticket voucher for Opening Night, April 4, 2008 at 7:07PM as the Avalanche host the Potomac Nationals.
