Chesapeake Tide Announce 2008 Roster

UPPER MARLBORO, MD - The Chesapeake Tide of the Continental Indoor Football League (CIFL) announced their 2008 roster, completing a competitive training camp with hopes of a return to the playoffs.

"I like the even mixture of experienced and new players we have on this roster," said Head Coach Matt Steeple. "The team is made up of a lot of playmakers who should help us have a great season."

Ten starters, and a total of 14 players from the 2007 squad, which finished the regular season at 7-5 and earned a playoff berth in their inaugural season, anchor the Tide roster. The returning starters are Joe Able, Leonte Collins, Mike Fitzgerald Jr., Robert Henning, Sammie Jenkins, Mike Jones, Noble Jones, Savon McLemore, Darryl Overton Jr., and Kyle Postell. Other returnees include Lavon Copeland, Daryl Disbrow, Ron Garner and Orlando McGruder.

Top newcomers include Linebacker/Defensive End Jamar Atkinson (6'2", 245), a Washington D.C. native and a 2001 PrepStar All-Atlantic Region Selection while playing for Garfield High School. Atkinson started his college career playing for SUNY Morrisville and was named First-Team 2003 NJCAA All-American and 2003 Northeast Conference Defensive Player of the Year. He finished his college career playing his junior and senior years for the Syracuse Orangemen. As a senior, he played in all12 games. Other top rookies include Offensive/Defensive Lineman Kobie Howell (6'6", 330) from Morgan State, Offensive/Defensive Lineman Joseph Johnson (6'2", 330), Offensive Lineman Marcellus Green (6'5". 295), and Quarterback Joe Urso (6'1", 190) who starred for Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School and Wilkes University and made his professional debut last season with the Baltimore Blackbirds.

The Tide roster has a lot of local flavor with 14 players from the Washington D.C. Metropolitan area, seven from the Baltimore area, and one, Robert Henning, from Prince Frederick.
