Frost Heaves to celebrate UVM upset of Syracuse

The Vermont Frost Heaves will close out their home schedule this week by hosting three games at Burlington's Memorial Auditorium on Thursday night, Saturday afternoon and Sunday afternoon.
Public broadcasting personality Fran Stoddard, who co-chairs the Chittenden County Hunger Council and hosts the popular Vermont Public Television program Profile, will be on the bench, in uniform and ready to play as the Northfield Savings Bank Community All-Star on Thursday, Feb. 28, when the Frost Heaves host the Montreal Royal in a School Vacation Special at 7:05 p.m. At halftime Stoddard will shoot free throws to benefit the Vermont Campaign to End Childhood Hunger, and the first 500 kids through the door will receive a free Bump the Moose collectible courtesy of Bond Auto Parts.
During Saturday's 2:05 p.m. game with the Boston Blizzard, the Frost Heaves will celebrate Aubuchon Hardware's 100th Birthday Bash and fete the UVM Catamounts' epic 2004 NCAA tournament upset of Syracuse. There will be March Madness fun and games, and former Vermont star Germain Mopa-Njila will serve as the NSB Community All-Star, shooting free throws to benefit the Association of Africans Living in Vermont.
On Sunday, the Quebec Kebekwa swing through Memorial for a 4:05 p.m. start on Fan Appreciation Day. Every fan will receive a special thank-you gift from the Frost Heaves, and two extraordinarily devoted fanatics, Don Mandelkorn and Dick Rouelle, will serve as NSB Community All-Stars. Mandelkorn and Rouelle-who have traveled to every Frost Heaves game this season, home and away-will each shoot free throws to benefit Our House of Central Vermont.
The Frost Heaves will host the 2008 ABA All-Star Weekend on March 21 & 22 at the Barre Municipal Auditorium. For five days beginning on Monday, March 3, season-ticket holders will enjoy an exclusive five-day window to claim the same reserved seats they occupied during the regular season for Hot Shots and Slam Dunks on Friday night, and the All-Star Classic on Saturday afternoon. They will be able to do so by calling the Frost Heaves office at 860-0082, or by stopping by 4049 Williston Road in South Burlington. On Monday, March 11, remaining tickets will be made available for general sale through the Flynn Regional Box Office, and at Allen Lumber in Barre and First In Fitness in Montpelier.
Vermont, the 2007 ABA Champions, currently sit atop the league's Power Rankings with a 28-4 record. The Frost Heaves lead the league in defense and include players with connections to the Green Mountain State such as former UVM star Erik Nelson, Richmond resident Issa Konare, and ex-St. Michael's College standouts B.J. Robertson and Chris Cayole.
At every home game this season the Frost Heaves have welcomed to their bench a guest player who takes center stage at halftime, when he or she is given 24 seconds to sink as many free throws as possible. Northfield Savings Bank makes a donation to the charity of the All-Star's choice for every shot made.
By taking and making shots at halftime of games last season, 23 Northfield Savings Bank Community All-Stars triggered thousands of dollars in giving to charities chosen by Frost Heaves fans. Over the past 10 years Northfield Savings Bank has donated $4.5 million to hundreds of local organizations, with the Community All-Star program an essential part of that effort.
Tickets for all three games this week may be purchased at the door beginning one hour before tip-off, or through the Flynn Regional Box Office. All Frost Heaves games, home and away, are broadcast on WSNO AM 1450 in Barre and WJOY AM 1230 in Burlington, with select games carried on WLVB FM 93.9 in Morrisville. In addition, free Webcasts are available for viewing both live and on demand at vermontfrostheaves.com, where fans can also find an audio stream of the Vermont Frost Heaves Basketball Radio Network.
