
WNBA Players Participate in Key NBA and Celebrity Events Throughout NBA All-Star Week

NEW YORK AND NEW ORLEANS, Feb. 12, 2008 -- The WNBA and its players will help give back to the New Orleans community throughout NBA All-Star with a week of WNBA Cares activities, including a special visit to Children's Hospital and a WNBA Be Smart - Be Fit - Be Yourself fitness clinic, both set to take place Thursday, Feb. 14.
WNBA stars including Los Angeles Sparks center Lisa Leslie, Indiana Fever forward Tamika Catchings, Detroit Shock guard Katie Smith and Houston Comets forward Sheryl Swoopes will be joined by NBA Legends at the Children's Hospital on Thursday morning where they will spend time with young patients and distribute gifts.
Later that day, Minnesota Lynx guard Lindsey Harding, Washington Mystics guard Nikki Teasley, and fitness expert and WNBA Legend Jennifer Azzi will host a clinic at Tulane University. Over 100 young girls from the GirlsFirst & Awesome Girls Mentoring Program will have the opportunity to interact with legendary women's basketball stars while learning basketball skills and techniques, along with proper fitness and nutritional tips for leading a healthy lifestyle.
In addition, WNBA players, including Los Angeles guard and former LSU standouts Seimone Augustus and Temeka Johnson, will participate in numerous other community-related events throughout the week, and other WNBA players will be featured in key festivities during NBA All-Star Weekend.
On Friday, Feb. 15, Cash and San Antonio Silver Stars center Ruth Riley will take on celebrities in the McDonald's NBA All-Star Celebrity Game. Also, as part of NBA All-Star Saturday Night, Cash will compete against Chicago Sky forward Candice Dupree, Phoenix Mercury guard Cappie Pondexter and San Antonio Silver Stars guard Becky Hammon as they team up with NBA Players and NBA Legends in the Haier Shooting Stars contest. Fans can also catch WNBA players at NBA All-Star Jam Session presented by adidas which runs from Feb. 14-17 at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, and features player meet and greets, clinics and autograph sessions.

Feb. 12 - Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA Clinics - Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA, presented by Gatorade and Nike, will host hundreds of children from Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA member leagues at a series of skills and fitness clinics at the Boys & Girls Club (West Bank), the Berhman Center and the Treme Center.
Feb. 14 - WNBA Cares Hospital Visit - Lisa Leslie, Tamika Catchings, Sheryl Swoopes and Katie Smith, NBA Legends Bob Lanier and Felipe Lopez and Jennifer Azzi will visit the Children's Hospital to distribute gifts and spend time with young patients.
Feb. 14 - Midway Court Dedication - Ruth Riley and Temeka Johnson will join New Orleans Hornets' David West, Atlanta Hawks' Al Horford, Bob Lanier and D-League player Randy Livingston in dedicating a newly refurbished NBA Cares basketball court at Laurel Elementary School. A basketball clinic for 100 students will follow the dedication ceremony.
Feb. 14 - WNBA Be Smart - Be Fit - Be Yourself Clinic - Swin Cash, Nikki Teasley, Lindsey Harding, Ruthie Bolton and Jennifer Azzi will host a fitness clinic for 100 young girls from GirlsFirst & Awesome Girls Mentoring Program. Participants will learn basketball skills and tips on leading a healthy lifestyle.
Feb. 15 - NBA Cares All-Star Day of Service - Over 2,500 volunteers, including numerous WNBA players, will participate in service projects through New Orleans including numerous Habitat for Humanity builds.
Feb. 15 - Technology Summit - Lindsey Harding, Ruth Riley, Lisa Leslie, Tamika Catchings, Sheryl Swoopes, Kayte Christensen (Chicago Sky) and Kara Lawson (Sacramento Monarchs) will be in attendance at the NBA All-Star 2008 Technology Summit.
Feb. 17 - Haier Shooting Stars - As part of NBA All-Star Saturday Night, Swin Cash, Candice Dupree, Cappie Pondexter and Becky Hammon will team up with NBA Players and NBA Legends in the Haier Shooting Stars contest.
Feb. 17 - Starkey Hearing Foundation - NBA Cares, in partnership with the Starkey Hearing Foundation, will distribute state-of-the-art hearing aids to more than 200 children at a reception hosted prior to the 2008 NBA All-Star Game. Tamika Catchings, Lisa Leslie, Cappie Pondexter, Sheryl Swoopes and Swin Cash will participate in the event.
