ROCHESTER, MI--- The International Hockey League (IHL) announced Monday that Port Huron right wing Jamie Carroll has been named the National City IHL Forward of the Week, Muskegon defenseman Kyle Kos has been named the Pepsi IHL Defenseman of the Week, Fort Wayne right wing Evgeny Saidachev has been named the Aquafina IHL Rookie of the Week, and Port Huron goaltender Ron Vogel has been named the Southern Sports Supply IHL Goaltender of the Week for the period ending Sunday, October 28th, 2007.
Carroll wrapped up his second week of IHL action with four points (3g, 1a) and a plus-5 rating in the three games the Icehawks played last week. He had one goal and one assist, with a plus- 3 rating Friday in Muskegon and scored two goals with a plus-2 rating for his Icehawks home opener on Saturday (10/28). The 24-year old Andover, Conneticuit native also scored a goal in the shootout Saturday versus Flint.
Other players nominated for the National City IHL Forward of the Week include: Bloomington forward Jason Ralph, Flint forward Michel Beausoleil, Fort Wayne right wing Evgeny Saidachev, Kalamazoo center Mike Manley and Muskegon center Billy Collins.
Kos completed his week with a plus/minus rating of +3. He scored his first goal of the season with his lone shot of the game which proved to be the game-winner on Saturday (10/28) in Kalamazoo. His goal was scored just 26 seconds after Kalamazoo knotted the contest at one goal a piece. The Hope, British Columbia native leads all defenseman in the IHL with a 33.3% shooting percentage.
Other defenseman nominated for the Pepsi IHL Defenseman of the Week include: Bloomington's Scott Crawford, Flint's Nick Tuzzolino, Fort Wayne's Kevin Bertram, Kalamazoo's Matt Ianetta and Port Huron's Mark DeSantis.
Saidachev finished with one goal, two assits and a plus/minus rating of plus-3 in the two games played this past week. In Fort Wayne's game Friday (10/26) in Bloomington, Saidachev scored one goal and was plus-1 for the night. The next night, back home in Fort Wayne, he had 2 assists and went plus-2.. The 22-year old Khabarovsk, Russia native has a total of 4 shots on goal and a total of 2 penatly minutes so far this season.
Other players nominated for the Aquafina Rookie of the Week include: Bloomington right wing Brett Holmberg, Flint forward Josef Fojtik, Kalamazoo defenseman Jamie Vanderveeken, Muskegon center Zach Pearson and Port Huron forward Jamie Carroll.
Vogel wrapped up the week winning two straight contests for the Icehawks this past weekend. Friday (10/26) he made 20 saves to hold off the Fury for a 5-4 victory. On Saturday, Vogel made 30 saves to help boost the Icehawks to overtime, where he stopped all four shots he faced. In the shootout that same night, the London, Ontario native stopped both Flint shooters to lift his team to victory in dramatic fashion for their home opener. Vogel ended the week with a record of 2-0-0-0, with 50 saves, and a .877 save percentage.
Other goaltenders nominated for the Southern Sports Supply IHL Goaltender of the Week include: Bloomington's Derek Dolson, Flint's Chad Alban, Fort Wayne's Kevin Reiter, Kalamazoo's Jeremy Symington and Muskegon's Issac Reichmuth.
