INDIANAPOLIS, IN- The Indiana Ice made six selections last night in the USHL's 2007 Futures Draft. The Futures Draft is done in a "snake-like" format with the draft order being done by random draw. Indiana drew the last pick (13th) of the first round, but garnered the first overall selection (14th) of the second round.

The Ice's 2007 selections included two forwards, three defensemen and one goaltender.

Ethan Werek and Jordan Mayer are two of the top prospects in the province of Ontario, Canada and both play in the Ontario Provincial Junior Hockey League (OPJHL) and were 2007 first round Ontario Hockey League (OHL) picks last spring.

Werek is a 6-2 forward on the Stouffville Spirit and has already committed to play college hockey at Boston University. Mayer is currently the leading scorer in the OPJHL as a forward for the Kingston Voyageurs.

"Our philosophy when approaching our drafts is to select players who can contribute right away," said Ice GM/CEO Paul Skjodt. "We addressed our needs for 2008-09 with some of the finest young prospects in North America."

With their two middle picks, the Ice nabbed a pair of defensemen who were seen extensively at the team's tryout camps the past two summers in Cody Walsh and Mike Miller. Walsh participated in the club's 2007 June camps and is skating this year for the Chicago Young Americans. Miller took part in the Ice's 2006 June camps and is manning the blue line for Team Honeybaked in Michigan this season.

Rounding out Indy's 2007 selections were defenseman Cory Fienhage and goaltender Connor Knapp. Fienhage is playing high school hockey in Minnesota this year and will be a future defenseman for North Dakota in the fall of 2009, while Knapp is a 6-5 goaltender who is tending net this season for the Boston Junior Bruins of the Eastern Junior Hockey League and will be a future netminder for Miami University (OH) in 2009-10.
