Jax Summer Update

PORTLAND, August, 15, 2007 - Both the Western Lacrosse Association (WLA) and Major Series Lacrosse (MSL) regular-seasons have come to a close and teams are in the thick of playoff battles. The WLA and MSL are two subdivisions of the Canadian Lacrosse Association (CLA). The WLA and MSL compete independently until the winner of each playoff group is pitted against each other in the seven-game Mann Cup National Championships held from September 7-15.

In the WLA, The New Westminster Salmonbellies won the regular-season outright and beat the Nanaimo Timberman 4-1 in the best-of-seven semifinal series. The Salmonbellies will be matched up against the Coquitlam Adanacs in the next round; beginning Thursday, August 16. The Adanacs beat the Burnaby Lakers 4-2 in the best-of-seven semifinal.

In the MSL, The Peterborough Lakers won the regular-season title and beat the St. Regis Indians 4-1 in the best-of-seven semifinal. The Barrie Lakeshores, who finished the regular-season second, were swept by the Brampton Excelsiors. Brampton and Peterborough will begin their series on Thursday, August 16.

Jax goalie Dallas Eliuk was an instrumental part in the Adanacs season. The 18-year National Lacrosse League veteran played in eight games for the Adanacs, posting a 3-1-1 record and allowing just a 9.42 goals-against-average. Eliuk's GAA was second in the WLA. Eliuk appeared in the first two playoff games for the Adanacs, going 1-1. Eliuk stopped 33-of-39 shots in the playoff opener and then stopped 37-of-51 shots in the second game.

Jax defenseman Ray Guze played in the first three playoff games for the Adanacs. The defensive enforcer added an assist and spent a total of 16 minutes in the penalty box during the three games he appeared in.

Jax forward Peter Morgan finished the regular-season as the Salmonbellies third-leading scorer. Morgan scored 28 goals and tallied 22 assists for 50 points in the 16 games he has appeared in. In the playoffs, Morgan has scored eight goals and tallied six assists in the first four playoff games. His brother, Jax defenseman Rich Morgan added four goals and seven assists in four games of action during the regular-season.

Graham Palmer started the summer with the Adanacs and was traded to the fifth place Maple Ridge Burrards. In nine games with the Burrards, Palmer recorded four goals and two assists.

Jax backup goalie Matt King went 5-4 with the Nanaimo Timberman during the regular-season and had a GAA of 10.67. In the playoffs, King has gone 1-2 and stopped 136 of the 173 shots he's seen in three games of action. Defenseman Scott Mazuran finished the season practicing with the Langley Thunder.

In the MSL, forward Matt Holman scored 11 goals and added 11 assists during the regular-season for the Barrie Lakeshores. In the playoffs, Holman scored two goals.

Brodie Merrill, Ryan Powell and DJ Driscoll are also playing this summer in Major League Lacrosse.
