July 7, 2007 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Rome Legions News Release

Indianapolis, IN. The American Basketball Association (ABA) today announced that it will add a third Georgia team to its 2007-2008 line-up when play begins in November. According to Joe Newman, ABA CEO, "After struggling to find the right ownership group for the region, and in a surprise move, JAM Entertainment, Inc. made the decision to place a team in Rome, Georgia this season. JAM has done a remarkable job in Rochester, Minnesota - and felt very confident that they could duplicate their success in this excellent Georgia city."

David Archer, a former executive with the WBA and prominent local basketball coach and businessman, has taken the lead as the Managing General Partner of the organization. A general public announcement and press conference will be held on August 1st. The logo design and website development is in the works and will be completed by the August 1st press conference.

JAM Entertainment, Inc is a well-financed restaurant and property development company. According to Archer, "Players are being contacted and the first tryout is scheduled for late August. Interviews have already started for the sales staff and office staff and we are pointing to August 1st as the start date. We have a lot to do, not too much time to do it - but we are confident that we can have a great success in Rome."

The Forum Civic Center has been reserved for the bulk of the team's schedule. It is possible that some games could be played in adjoining towns. "We are working that out now," added Archer, "And we should have complete details at our press conference.

"The team will be known as the Rome Legions. The Roman military was divided into "legions." "If you remember the famous line from the movie, "Patton,", said Archer, "Caesar had his legions and now comes the American Army!" The organization felt a Roman-themed name was the right direction to take."

Season tickets will go on sale after August 1. If you would like to reserve tickets, call 770 606 3764, eamil rome0708aba@yahoo.com or visit www.abalive.com.

Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
