May 7, 2007 - American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release

Question from Frank (and many others): "How are you going to keep your teams and players from leaving the ABA and joining the two or three new leagues that are forming?"

Answer: Frank (and many others): Competition is the heart and soul of capitalism and the free enterprise system. McDonalds competes with Wendys, Burger King, Hardees, et al. Wal Mart competes with Target, K-Mart, Sears, et al. American Airlines competes with Delta, US Airways, Continential, et al. Competition is good, not bad. Companies and customers benefit from strong competition. The ABA will compete with other leagues by providing top quality basketball at affordable prices and by operating with ethics and high standards. It is incumbent upon us to show our teams and fans that the ABA is the best league. We do not recruit teams from other leagues as other leagues are doing. We are building the ABA the right way. Hope this answers your question. If you have a question, email joenewman@abalive.com.

Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams. For information on professional minor leagues, please see OSC's basketball section.
