Plymouth Whalers News Release

PLYMOUTH - Plymouth goaltender Michal Neuvirth stopped 36-of-37 shots as the game's first star, Tom Sestito added a pair of goals and the Plymouth Whalers pulled away from the London Knights for the second straight game in a 5-1 victory in and Ontario Hockey League playoff game played Friday night before 3,110 at the Compuware Sports Arena.

Plymouth - who defeated London, 5-1, on Thursday night in London - leads the best-four-of-seven Western Conference Finals series, two-games-to-none, with Game 3 Monday night in London.

Besides Sestito, Dan Collins (4th of the playoffs), Jared Boll (3) and James Neal (9) also scored for the Whalers. Sergei Kostitsyn scored the lone London goal in the third period.

Neuvirth ran his playoff record to 8-1 and dueled London goaltender Steve Mason over the first forty minutes of the game. Neuvirth - a second round draft choice of the Washington Capitals - allowed very few rebounds and seemed to see every shot with the exception of Kostitsyn's goal.

Collins gave Plymouth an early 1-0 lead at 1:24 of the first period when his shot from the severe angle right wing in the London zone pinballed off Knights' defenseman Todd Perry and into the goal. Mason was outstanding the rest of the first period as Plymouth outshot London, 16-10.

Boll gave Plymouth a 2-0 lead at 9:01 of the second period when he accepted a pass from Evan Brophey in front of the London goal, waited for Mason to commit, and scored on a backhand shot. Sestito scored a pair of goals in the third period at 4:24 and 13:31, sandwiching them around Kostitsyn's goal at 11:07. Neal completed the scoring in tight on the right wing doorstep at the London goal at 16:53 of the third period.

Plymouth outshot London, 40-37.
