April 2, 2007 - Continental Indoor Football League (CIFL)
Chesapeake Tide News Release

UPPER MARLBORO, MD -- In their first game of their inaugural season, the Chesapeake Tide of the Continental Indoor Football League (CIFL) introduced themselves to the world properly. In front of 3,176 boisterous fans at Show Place Arena, the Tide came from behind to seal a 37-30 victory over the visiting New England Surge on Sunday afternoon.

Trailing 30-29 late in the final quarter, Tide quarterback Chris Thompson handed the ball to running back Mike Kelley with 34 seconds to play. Kelley rushed for the go-ahead touchdown and wide receiver Colby Cloude caught Thompson's pass to complete the two-point conversion to gain the 37-30 advantage.

With time winding down, the Surge attempted four consecutive end-zone plays from the Tide's 14-yard line. True to their name, the Tide's defense rose to the occasion. With one second remaining, Surge quarterback Marc Eddy's pass sailed into the stands, providing a dramatic ending to the Tide's first game.

Thompson and Kelley charged the Tide's electric offense. Thompson threw for two touchdowns and rushed for two more, while Kelley totaled three scores on two receptions and the eventual game-winning rush. Kicker Cap Poklemba added a field goal for the Tide.

After a bye next weekend, the Tide return to action on Friday, April 13, as they visit the Steubenville Stampede in Steubenville, OH.

The Tide's next home game is Saturday, April 21 against the Rochester Raiders.
