Philadelphia Wings News Release

ST. PAUL, MN - The Philadelphia Wings lost their fourth game straight to the Minnesota Swarm by a score of 11-9 at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, MN. After getting out to a 4-1 lead in the first quarter, the game was either tied or one goal apart for most of the contest. The Wings face the Chicago Shamrox in their next game on Saturday, March 24 at the Wachovia Center at 7:30 p.m.

"We came out really strong, but couldn't keep up the momentum," said Wings' General Manager and Head Coach Lindsay Sanderson. "Our offense was really flat in the second half and we just couldn't come up with the firepower to get the lead back. "

Minnesota got a quick first goal when Ryan Sharp scored unassisted just :08 into the game. The Wings went on a four-goal run (Jake Bergey, John Christmas, Bergey, Sean Greenhalgh) to take a 4-1 lead. The Swarm's Kasey Beirnes scored two straight to bring Minnesota within one followed by the tying goal by Chad Culp. Philadelphia's Greenhalgh put his team up 5-4 when he scored with just :09 left in the first quarter.

The Swarm's Ryan Ward scored the first goal of the second quarter to tie the game at six. Bergey scored his third of the night, and unassisted goal, to put the Wings up by one again. Culp got his second of the night for Minnesota followed by a goal by the Wings' Dan Marohl to put the Wings up 7-6, but the Swarm's Mike Hominuck scored with 1:26 left in the half to tie the game at seven going into halftime.

Philadelphia's Bergey got his fourth goal of the game to put his team up by one again, but Minnesota's Biernes scored his third with 4:04 left in the quarter to tie the game again at eight after three quarters of play. But Minnesota dominated the fourth quarter in scoring. The Swarm got two goals just 1:12 apart when Biernes scored his fourth of the night followed by Ward's second. Jeff Ratcliffe got his first of the game to pull the Wings within one, but the Minnesota's Culp scored his second of the night to secure an 11-9 win for the Swarm.

Tonight's game was suppose to be the second in a home and home series between the two teams, but yesterday's game in Philadelphia was postponed due to weather related travel issues prevented the Swarm from getting to Philadelphia. The game has been rescheduled to Friday, April 13 at 7:30 p.m. at Wachovia Center.
