Lincoln Saltdogs News Release
LINCOLN, NEB. - The American Association of Independent Professional Baseball has announced that the Lincoln Saltdogs have sold the contract of LHP Lindsay Gulin to the Milwaukee Brewers. Gulin is the 13th player from the league to have his contract sold to a major league organization and the second purchased by the Brewers since the end of last season.
The 30-year old Gulin was arguably the best pitcher in the American Association in 2006 finishing first in the league with a 2.10 earned run average, second with 13 wins and third in strikeouts with 104. A native of Issaquah, Wash., Gulin allowed only 20 walks in 120 innings pitched and limited opponents to a batting average of only .204.
For his efforts, Gulin was awarded with the "Star of Stars" award, which is given annually by Sportsticker, the league's official statistician, to the player with the best overall statistical performance in their particular league. He was also a two-time Pitcher- of-the-Week for the weeks of May 15-21 and July 31-August 6. Gulin was the starting pitcher for the American Association against the Can-Am League in the 2006 All-Star Game on July 18th in El Paso, Texas and was named the top left-handed pitcher on the American Association's Post-Season All-Star team.
Gulin was selected in the 16th round of the 1995 draft by the New York Mets and spent three years in their organization. Gulin also pitched in the Seattle Mariners, Chicago Cubs and Los Angeles Dodgers farm systems. During his time with the Dodgers, he threw a no-hitter against Tacoma while pitching for Las Vegas (AAA) in 2003. He pitched with the independent St. Paul Saints 1999 and also spent two years pitching in Japan prior to his season in Lincoln.
The Saltdogs begin the 2007 season on May 10 at Pensacola with the home opener set for May 22 against St. Joe. For team and ticket information, go to www.saltdogs.com.
