22 new giveaways highlight Thunder promo schedule

(Trenton, NJ) - The Trenton Thunder, the Class AA affiliate of the New York Yankees, has released its 2007 promotional schedule, which features 22 new giveaways, 21 fireworks shows and eight bobblehead doll giveaways. The 2007 Thunder season kicks off on Thursday, April 5th against the Bowie Baysox at 7:05 PM at Waterfront Park.

In setting the promotional schedule, the Thunder wanted to recognize some of their recent players that have gone on to great success in the Major Leagues, including National League Batting Champion Freddy Sanchez (Thunder '01 & '02) of the Pittsburgh Pirates, who will have his own "week" of giveaways. Monday, May 21st will be a Sanchez Player Statue giveaway. Tuesday, May 22nd will commemorate his batting title with an N.L. Batting Champion Mini Bat Night. Wednesday, May 23rd will cap the week with a Sanchez Bobblehead giveaway. Those games are versus the Portland Sea Dogs, Boston's Double-A Affiliate. The Red Sox traded Sanchez to the Pirates in 2003 for three players, including former Thunder pitcher Jeff Suppan.

The Thunder will also honor Chien-ming Wang (Thunder '03 & '04) with a Thunder Replica Jersey giveaway (Saturday, April 7th) and a Player Statue (Sunday, August 26th). Yankees OF Melky Cabrera (Thunder '04 & '05) will also be remembered with a "Got Melky" T-Shirt giveaway (Friday, May 11th) and a Bobblehead giveaway (Wednesday, June 13th).

There will be eight bobblehead doll giveaways in 2007. Former Thunder pitchers Phil Hughes, who is the N.Y. Yankees "top prospect" and who won the Eastern League ERA title last season, will have his bobblehead giveaway on Wednesday, April 11th. Tyler Clippard will have a bobblehead giveaway on Wednesday, August 15th to commemorate his throwing the 1st "No-Hitter" in Thunder history last season. The Thunder will also give away bobbleheads of two former Eastern League stars- 1B Ryan Howard in a Reading Phillies uniform (Sunday, June 17th) and 3B David Wright in a Binghamton Mets uniform (Tuesday, June 5th). The Thunder also will give away a bobblehead doll of a star to be determined on April 25.

The 2007 season will also include the first-ever "Kids Opening Day" on Saturday, April 7th, which will be a day designed specifically for children on the first "day-game" of the new season.

The promotional schedule has 21 Fireworks shows over the course of the season, including Opening Night (Thursday, April 5th), as well July 4th and 5th.

The Thunder will have two "Jersey Auction" nights, as the Thunder will wear Camouflage Jerseys on June 14th to celebrate the birthday of the US Army and American Flag Jerseys on July 4th. Fans will have the chance to bid on the jerseys with the proceeds going to the "Grand Slam We Care Foundation".

The schedule also includes "birthday" giveaways for the two best mascots in the business. Boomer's Birthday on May 20th will have a Kids Bank Giveaway. Chase "That Golden Thunder" will celebrate his birthday with a Bobblehead giveaway on July 3rd.

Other new giveaway items include Earth Day Baseball Giveaway (logo baseball designed like Planet Earth) on April 22nd, Thunder Pink Replica Jersey Day on May 13th (Mother's Day), Thunder Safari Hats on June 12th and Thunder Dodgeballs on July 1st.
