SteelHounds Sign Three Players
August 23, 2006 - Central Hockey League (CHL) Youngstown SteelHounds
YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO - The Youngstown SteelHounds and General Manager Joe Gregory announced today that they have added some depth to the defensive corps for the 2006-07 Central Hockey League (CHL) season. Signing one year deals with the Hounds are defensemen Matt Suderman and Vince Guiducci and goaltender Corey Wogtech. Suderman, 23, a seventh round selection (199th overall) by the Atlanta Thrashers in the 2001 National Hockey League (NHL) Entry Draft, joins the team after a two-year stint in the United Hockey League (UHL). The 6-3, 235 pound defender, known for his physical style of play, racked up 151 penalty minutes in 56 games with the Missouri River Otters (UHL) in 2005-06. Prior to his time in the UHL, Suderman spent three seasons with the Saskatoon Blades of the Western Hockey League (WHL) where he posted 27 points and 367 penalty minutes in 198 games.
Guiducci, 25, a native of Hamilton, Ont., played four seasons in Boston, Mass., with the Wentworth Institute of Technology Leopards. After appearing in 106 games with the Leopards, the 5-10, 160 pound Guiducci ranks 12th on the schools all-time scoring list with 73 points (13 goals, 60 assists). The defender looks to bring his history of success to Youngstown, as he was a part of two WIT teams (2002 & 2003), which took home Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Northeast crowns and advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals.
Wogtech, 24, is the second goalie signed by the Hounds for the upcoming season. The 6-1, 175 pound goalie saw action in nine games with the Missouri River Otters in 2005-06. With the Otters, Wogtech posted a record of 1-4-2 including one shut out. The St. Louis, MO. Native also had stints of three games played with both Oklahoma City (CHL) and Huntsville (SPHL).
The Hounds open camp in October, with the first home contest set for Oct. 27th at 7:05 p.m. For more information please call 330-747-7825 or visit www.steelhounds.com.
