November 2, 2005 - Continental Indoor Football League (CIFL)
Marion Mayhem News Release

The Marion Mayhem are pleased to announce the signings of Mr. and Mrs. Smith for the team's inaugural 2006 season. Though not movie stars, the team and league are sure this Mr. and Mrs. Smith will bring plenty of excitement to the city's first professional football team, and to the GLIFL's inaugural 2006 season.

Tracy Smith has been signed as the head coach and general manager of the Marion Mayhem. He brings with him an extensive resume of coaching Marion-area teams with success. Smith currently is the defensive coordinator at River Valley High School in Caledonia. He was previously an assistant at Ridgedale High School in Morral, an assistant at Cardington Lincoln High School, and an assistant at Ohio Northern University. Smith was also the head coach in 1999 and 2000 at Marion Catholic High School.

"Tracy is the kind of coach that we were looking for in Marion," said Mayhem owner and GLIFL co-founder Eric Spitaleri. "We wanted a local coach who is experienced in program-building. With Tracy Smith, we found one. We are very confident in his ability to build a winner for the fans in Marion."

The Mayhem are also excited to announce the signing of Tracy's wife, Jodi Smith, as the team's first dance team coordinator. Jodi has been the head cheerleading coach at Ridgedale High School in Morral since 1995. She is a member of the 1989 National Champion Cheerleading Team from Ridgedale. Her experience includes organizing camps, mini-camps, pep rallies (school and community), fundraising and choreography.

"You aren't going to find someone who has had this level of success in cheerleading and running a dance team-style organization," said Spitaleri. "You're not supposed to be able to find this kind of experience when starting a football team and dance team. This is a huge pickup for the Mayhem."

Mr. and Mrs. Smith will both begin preparations for the Mayhem's inaugural season, which is tentatively scheduled to start with a road game at the Battle Creek (MI) Crunch on April 7, 2006. Tryouts for both the football team and dance team will be scheduled at a later date.

The Great Lakes Indoor Football League is based in Canton, Ohio, and currently has six teams scheduled to participate in its inaugural season. Joining the Mayhem are the Battle Creek (MI) Crunch, the Lehigh Valley (PA) Outlawz, the NY/NJ Revolution, the Port Huron (MI) Pirates, and the Rochester (NY) Raiders.
