Schaumburg Flyers News Release
ST. PAUL, MN- As the Schaumburg Flyers spent a league wide Monday off-day in St. Paul, the entire team was still buzzing about a no-hitter by recently departed Flyers pitcher Matt Bailie on Sunday afternoon.
In just his second start for Class AA Bowie since leaving Schaumburg for the Baltimore Orioles organization on August 8, Bailie no-hit the Class AA Erie Seawolves as the Bowie Baysox won 5-0 at Uht Park in Erie, PA.
Bailie retired the first 14 batters he faced in a 104-pitch effort before allowing a two-out walk in the fifth inning. The only other batter to reach was a hit batsman with two outs in the eighth inning. Neither runner reached second base. Generally known as a flyball pitcher, Bailie recorded 17 flyball outs on Sunday. It was the first ever no-hitter at Uht Park.
"I had really good fastball command," Bailie told minorleaguebaseball.com."I was able to locate it on both sides of the plate and get ahead of the hitters." More on the game is available at minorleaguebaseball.com.
The Flyers lost at Fargo 7-2 on Sunday afternoon. They will re-start play on Tuesday at St. Paul in third place in the Northern League's South Division second half race, three games behind Lincoln with 18 games remaining in the regular season. Schaumburg's second half record is 15-15. Gary sits in second 2.5 games off the pace.
The Flyers return to Alexian Field on Friday, August 19 to host the Winnipeg Goldeyes at 7:05 PM.
