
WNBA All-Star Balloting Begins May 28

NEW YORK, MAY 27 â The WNBA All-Star Balloting Program will begin Saturday, May 28 to determine the starting players for the 2005 WNBA All-Star Game. The 2005 WNBA All-Star Game will be hosted by the Connecticut Sun on Saturday, July 9 at the Mohegan Sun Arena. The game will be televised nationally on ABC beginning at 4:00 p.m. EDT.
Fans in all 13 WNBA cities can make their All-Star selections at special in-arena balloting nights and by going online to WNBA.com to cast their ballot. The WNBA All-Star Balloting Program will be conducted from May 28 through June 23, and reserve players will subsequently be selected by Eastern and Western Conference head coaches.
1-800-FLOWERS.COM, one of five new WNBA promotional partners, will make special offers available to WNBA fans on the 2005 WNBA All-Star paper ballots and the All-Star balloting pages on WNBA.com. Additional new partners for the 2005 season are McDonalds, Digene, Got Milk? and Toyota.
The 65 players included on the 2005 All-Star ballot represent all 13 WNBA teams. Voters must select two guards, two forwards and one center for each conference. A write-in option is also available, allowing fans to choose players not listed on the ballot.
2005 WNBA All-Star tickets go on sale to the public starting June 1 and may be purchased by calling 1-877-WNBA-TIX, through all Ticketmaster outlets, on-line at WNBA.com and ticketmaster.com and at the Mohegan Sun box office. Ticket prices start at $15.
The WNBA tipped off its ninth season on Saturday, May 21, 2005 under the leadership of new President Donna Orender. In 2004, for the sixth consecutive season, more than two million fans attended WNBA games. Also in 2004, three consecutive WNBA Finals sellout crowds witnessed the Seattle Storm defeat the Connecticut Sun to capture its first WNBA Championship.
