Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees News Release
RIO GRANDE VALLEY KILLER BEES
2004-05 WEEKLY RELEASE
FOR THE WEEK OF Feb 7th - Feb 13th
FITTING INTO FORM
It's unfortunate times for the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees, who are amidst a franchise high 11 game winless streak. The winless streak is the second streak containing at least ten losses this season. The first one began November 12th against the Colorado Eagles and ended on November 27th against the Amarillo Gorillas. Ironically, the current streak began with a loss to Colorado on January 14th and the Bees next game is against Amarillo. The streaks have hammered the Bees this season and have kept them at the bottom of the Southeast Division with only 11 wins. The Bees have not won since defeating Laredo 3-2 on January 8th and have not won back-to-back contests since consecutive wins over Fort Worth on December 5 and 10th. Things could be worse... the 1999/2000 Memphis RiverKings posted a 9-57-4 record. The âKings rebounded the following season and posted a 43-21-6 record.
TRADE DEADLINE CAME AND GONE
The phones were ringing off the wall in coaches offices around the CHL on Monday as the CHL's trade deadline approached the 3PM deadline. There was a lot of fishing around the league but not very many bites. Only two trades were made league-wide on Monday. The Topeka Tarantulas made a deal with the San Angelo Saints, which sent center Jonathan Dubois to the Saints for future considerations early in the day and just under the deadline the Odessa Jackalopes sent CHL All-Star Benoit Genesse and defenseman RC Lyke to the Fort Worth Brahmas in return for center Aaron Davis and defenseman Sheldon Nedjelski.
THIS WEEK'S "INSIDE THE NUMBERS"
2 - Goals Allowed Away- The Killer Bees allowed 162 goals in 64 games over the regular season last year and through 42 games this season, they have already allowed 160 goals.
7 - Shutouts Faced -. The Bees have suffered seven shutouts this season, matching last year's total for the number of shutouts faced during the season.
45 - Penalty Minutes- Forward Ryan Shmyr combined for 45 minutes in penalties in two games over the weekend, including a season high 26 Friday in Laredo, which was one minute from a single-game franchise high (also owned by Shmyr). The two game total was the most for Shmyr as a Bee and gives him 195 minutes in penalties on the season, which ranks seventh in the CHL.
BEE OF THE WEEK
This week's Killer Bees "Bee of the Week," for their performance in last week's games, is awarded to rookie forward Daymen Bencharski. The Ohio State product led the Bees in goals over the three games with two to co-lead the team in points for the week. Seven of Bencharski's nine goals this season have been tallied on the road, which leads the Bees in road goals scored.
100,000th FAN
On Friday, the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees Bees will eclipse the 100,000 fan mark on Friday against Amarillo. The 100,000th fan strolling through the Dodge Arena doors will be recognized and will be issued an autographed jersey signed by members of the Bees.
