Ottawa Renegades News Release

OTTAWA – The Ottawa Renegades released offensive tackle David De La Perralle Thursday, and also announced that 2003 draft pick Patrick Kabongo has reported to the team.

De La Perralle, who was inactive through the first four games of the regular season, has had an injury-riddled CFL career since being drafted by Toronto in 1999. The Montreal native got banged up in the first game of 2000 and did not play for all of 2000 and 2001. He appeared in four games last season, before missing the last 11 games due to injury as well.

"We want to thank David for his contributions to our club over the past three years," said Renegades General Manager Eric Tillman. "We fully expect that he will be playing again in the Canadian Football League in the very near future."

Kabongo, who was Ottawa's first pick of the third round in the 2003 Canadian College Draft, comes to the Renegades after a solid college career at the University of Nebraska. The 25-year-old adds plenty of size to the Renegades, coming in at six-foot-seven and 340 pounds.

Early plans indicate that Kabongo will split time working with both the offensive and defensive lines.

A native of Zaire, Kabongo grew up in Montreal before becoming a starter on the Huskers defensive line in 2002. Kabongo had an outstanding college career, was a two-time member of Nebraska's Brook Berringer Citizenship Team and received the 2003 Brook Berringer Memorial Scholarship. He recorded 35 tackles in his senior year at Nebraska, before having a stint with the Detroit Lions as a free agent pick-up in April, 2004.

Kabongo's full name is Watshidimba (pronounced Watch-chee-DIM-bah) "Patrick" Kabongo and is the son of Angelique Kajungu, who lives in Montreal. Patrick speaks French as his first language and English as his second.
