Toronto Rock News Release
Toronto, ON â The Toronto Rock have hired Matt Sawyer as an Assistant Coach for the upcoming season. Sawyer brings a wealth of knowledge to the Rock coaching staff with over 20 years of lacrosse experience as a coach and player.
"This is an unbelievable opportunity for me; having the chance to work with what I consider to be the premier team in the National Lacrosse League. I'm also excited about the chance to work with Terry Sanderson and John Lovell, as well as the players and other Rock staff." said Sawyer.
Sawyer is no stranger to the NLL, having worked as an Assistant Coach with the Ottawa Rebel and the Montreal Express. He spent the last two years alongside Terry Sanderson with the Brampton Sr. A Excelsiors and was with the Orangeville Jr. A Northmen from 1998 to 2002. He helped coached both teams to provincial Championships; Minto Cup in 2000 and Mann Cup in 2003. Sawyer played his five-year Junior career with the Orangeville Northmen.
"We're happy to have Matt on board for next season. He's a smart, up and coming young offensive minded coach. Matt has had the chance to work with a number of Rock players through the Brampton Excelsiors for the past two years and I'm sure that he'll see continued coaching success here with Toronto" Terry Sanderson, Toronto Rock Head Coach.
