
Gary Gait Named Offensive Player of the Week

BALTIMORE, Md. â Baltimore Bayhawks midfielder Gary Gait has been named the Major League Lacrosse (MLL) Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending June 20, 2004, it has been announced by league officials.
Gait scored four goals and added three assists in the Bayhawks' 19-18 overtime win over Philadelphia on Saturday evening at Villanova Stadium. In recording his 20th career hat trick, Gait became the fifth player in MLL history to score 100 career regular season goals. He has now scored 102 goals in three-plus seasons, including 72 during his time with the Bayhawks.
Gait gave the Bayhawks the instant win when he rifled a one-handed shot past Barrage goalkeeper Greg Cattrano with 8:16 left in overtime after the Bayhawks rallied from a late fourth-quarter deficit. Gait helped visiting Baltimore jump out to a 7-2 lead in the first quarter, scoring a pair of goals in the opening stanza. With the Bayhawks down in the fourth quarter, Gait helped the Bayhawks begin the comeback with a goal and two assists in the final 15 minutes of regulation.
Gait has scored at least one goal in 21 straight games, extending the Baltimore record that he set. He ranks third in Major League Lacrosse with 27 points on 17 goals and 10 assists.
Now 3-2 on the season, the Bayhawks travel to Uniondale, New York to face the defending Major League Lacrosse champion Long Island Lizards (3-2) on Friday night. Opening face-off is set for 7:30 p.m. at Mitchel Field.
