The Channel Cats took an early lead on a goal by Jessi Otis 4:45 into the game. Derek Reynolds and Carr added the assists.
The Cats struck again four minutes later on a James Patterson goal with assists from Dan Buccella and Joel Bresciani.
Knoxville got on the board with :19 left in the first period on an unassisted goal from Mike Zeibay.
The Channel Cats took a 3-1 lead on Carrs first goal of the night with assists from Patterson and Jason deGuehery.
Knoxville cut the lead to 3-2 with 6:59 left in the second on a goal from Kevin Swider with an assist from Rob Miller.
The Ice Bears tied the game :21 later on a Miller goal with assists from K.J. Vorhees and Craig Desjarlais.
Huntsville took a 4-3 lead with 9:17 left in the third period on Carrs second goal. Reynolds added his second assist of the night.
Knoxville tied the game at the 6:10 mark with a goal from Tom McMonagle and an assists from Vorhees and Swider.
Buccella gave the Cats the lead for good with 4:57 left in the game with assists from deGeuhery and Bresciani. Carr added a short-handed goal with 1:14 left in the game with an assist from Patterson.
Scott Graham started in goal for the Cats replacing starter Matt Camichael, who missed the game with a family emergency. Graham stopped 35 shots on the night. Blaine Russell took the loss for Knoxville. He is now 1-14 against the Cats this season.
The two teams meet again tomorrow night in Huntsville for game two of the series.
