Scorpions Goalie Beaudry Recalled by AHL Utah
March 26, 2004 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
New Mexico Scorpions News Release
ALBUQUERQUE â The New Mexico Scorpions of the Central Hockey League announced today that goalie Miguel Beaudry (pronounced BOH-dree) has been recalled by the Utah Grizzlies of the American Hockey League. It is the first AHL call-up for Beaudry, who posted a 15-17-2 record and 2.93 goals against average during the 2003-04 season. Beaudry will sign a Professional Try-Out (PTO) contract with the Grizzlies and be on the roster tonight when Utah hosts the Grand Rapids (Mich.) Griffins.
The 21 year-old native of Verner, Ontario tied a team record with three shutouts this season and became the first goalie in the Scorpions' eight-year history to post back-to-back whitewashes with a 6-0 victory over Fort Worth on March 5 and a 4-0 decision over Oklahoma City on March 6 in the final two home games. He was also named CHL Goalie of the Week three times during the year and was also the team's co-Rookie of the Year.
"Obviously, we're extremely happy and proud for Miguel to get this opportunity," said Scorpions Head Coach/Assistant General Manager Bill McDonald. "There's no doubt in my mind that he can play at the next level. He performed well for us this season and is very deserving of this chance."
The Grizzlies are affiliated with the Dallas Stars of the National Hockey League, and were in need of a goaltender after the Stars recalled Jason Bacashihua (Bah-CAH-shoo-ah). Dallas goalie Marty Turco was suspended for four games by the NHL yesterday for a high-sticking incident on Wednesday night in Edmonton during a 4-3 Stars overtime win.
The AHL call-up is the first for the Scorpions since Jonathan Delisle (Deh-LEEL) and David Cornacchia (Cor-KNACK-ee-ah) were recalled to the Quebec Citadelles during and after the 2001-02 season. The AHL regular season lasts until April 11 â the Grizzlies have seven games remaining. Beaudry joins Danny Lorenz with ties to higher-level hockey in Utah. Lorenz played for the Salt Lake City Golden Eagles of the now-defunct International Hockey League in 1993-94.
Current season ticket holders can renew their tickets for the 2004-05 season NOW by calling their ticket representative at the Scorpions office, (505) 881-PUCK (7825).
