Cincinnati Riverhawks News Release

(Cincinnati, OH) – The Cincinnati Riverhawks (4-2-0) beat the Indiana Blast (0-4-1) 2-1 tonight at Kuntz Stadium in Indianapolis.

Contrary to what was earlier reported, defender Jeremie Piette was available for the game and will be available for SundayÂ’s game against Minnesota. Piette was supposed to be suspended three games for actions during the El Paso-Cincinnati game May 10, but the Riverhawks are appealing the suspension, so Piette is cleared to play until the appeal is heard.

Forward Salvatore Piraine opened up the scoring in the 24th minute. Piraine received the ball from forward Marcel Matis and beat keeper Mark Spears. His shot hit the crossbar and bounced back to his feet and Piraine blasted the ball into the open net.

The Blast evened the score in the 64th minute when Godfrey Tenoff scored off a pass from newly acquired Jamar Beasley. Beasley crossed the ball from the endline to Tenoff who was able to put the ball past keeper Matt Reiswerg.

The Hawks put the game away in the 74th minute on a goal by forward Byron Carmichael. Carmichael was able score when he took the ball from a Blast defender inside their own box and shot the ball past Spears.

This win increased the Hawks lead for the Border Battle Cup with Indiana and kept Cincinnati ahead of Minnesota in the Central Division with 12 points. The Minnesota Thunder beat the Milwaukee Wave tonight 2-0 to remain in second place with 9 points.

The Riverhawks will take on the Minnesota Thunder at the Town & Country Sports Complex in Wilder, KY this Sunday at 4:05 pm. This game doubles as the second leg of qualifying for the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. This game is also Tri-County Youth Soccer Night. All kids who are members of the TCYSA get in for free when they wear their uniform. As an added bonus, any member who joins the Hawks Club, the Riverhawks youth fan club, at the game will get an adult into the game for half price.
