Yard Dawgz Landers earns Lineman of the Year nod

CHICAGO - Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz offensive/defensive lineman JAMES LANDERS (6-4, 285, Louisiana Monroe) has been named the 2004 af2 Lineman of the Year, as voted on by af2 head coaches and members of the media.

In a breakout year, Landers anchored a line that led the league in sacks with 43 while giving up only 18. Finishing the season tied for league lead in sacks (8.5) and forced fumbles (5), Landers also set career benchmarks with 14 tackles (10UA-8AT), including 4.5 for a loss, and one safety.

He earned ADT Defensive Player of the Game honors twice during the season, Week 5 against Tulsa and Week 8 against Wichita. On Tuesday, he was named to the National Conference's All-af2 First Team.

In his fifth af2 season, Landers spent the previous four years with Arkansas, playing in 33 games for the Twisters. During that span the nose guard/center recorded 46 tackles (28UA-36AT), four tackles for a loss, three forced fumbles and 2.5 sacks. He was nominated for Lineman of the Year in 2002.

The 2004 ArenaCup playoffs continue this weekend with the Tulsa Talons hosting the Peoria Pirates in the National Conference Championship game on Saturday night at 8:30 p.m. ET.
