Yakima to Host CBA All-Star Classic
August 4, 2003 - Continental Basketball Association 1 (CBA 1) News Release
(August 1, 2003) â The Continental Basketball Association announced today that the 20th CBA All-Star Classic will be hosted by the Yakima Sun Kings on January 20th at the Yakima Valley SunDome in Yakima, WA. This will be the third time that the Sun Kings have hosted the event
"We are pleased to be hosting the 2004 CBA All-Star Classic in Yakima," stated Sun Kings Managing Partner Darren Uceny. "The fans of the Yakima Valley have shown their support and appreciation of the Sun Kings and the CBA over the years. We feel that one of the major reasons we were awarded the game was due to the great fans we have in Yakima."
Stated CBA Commissioner Gary Hunter, "Yakima has always done a wonderful job of attracting fans and putting on a great show. That has been evident in previous All-Star Classics and in last season's Championship game. This year should be no exception and we are very excited about this event."
On January 22, 1992, a sell-out crowd of 5,400 fans watched local Sun King favorite Conner Henry lead his team to victory in the SunDome. Henry totaled 13 of his 18 points in the crucial fourth quarter and became the first two-time recipient of the Most Valuable Player award, as voted on by media and NBA scouts. On January 22, 1997, despite a dense fog in the area that closed the airport for most of the day, the SunDome attracted a crowd of 4,043 fans, in addition to 30 NBA scouts representing 23 teams.
The Slam Dunk Contest, sponsored by Banner Bank, and the Long Distance Shootout, sponsored by the doctors and dentists of the Yakima Valley Farm Workers Clinic, will be held prior to the All-Star Game. The game is scheduled to tip-off at 7:05 p.m.
Tickets to the 2004 CBA All-Star Classic will go on sale first to Sun King season ticket holders and sponsors, and will then be opened to the general public after Labor Day.
