Bellingham Slam News Release

BELLINGHAM, Wash. -The team that will take the court for the Bellingham Slam for the first time under new head coach Tyler Amaya continues to take shape with the addition of two standout players from Western Washington, the team announced today.

Austin Bragg and Richard Woodworth, who both finished their senior seasons with the Vikings last month, will be joining the Slam for the 2014 International Basketball League season.

Bragg, a 6-foot-9 forward, recently wrapped up a stellar year for WWU, leading the team in both scoring and rebounding with averages of 17.3 points and 8.8 rebounds per game. He finished with 11 double-doubles and posted a triple-double, just the second in school history, with 13 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists on February 1 versus Alaska-Anchorage.

A native of Longview, Wash., and a transfer from Clark College, Bragg also competed in the NCAA Division II All-Star game last month, joining former WWU and Slam standouts Ryan Diggs and Ira Graham who also enjoyed that honor.

Woodworth, a 6-foot-3 guard from Bellevue's Newport High School, finished an excellent four-year playing career with the Vikings ranked 15th on the school's career scoring list with 1,262 points. As a senior, he ranked second behind Bragg in scoring with 16.7 points per game and scored in double figures 19 times. His biggest highlight this past season came on February 22 when he nailed a game-winning shot from beyond half-court to beat Central Washington at the buzzer.

As a sophomore, Woodworth was a member of the Vikings' NCAA Division II national championship-winning team in 2012.

In addition to their scoring prowess, both Bragg and Woodworth led WWU in a number of other statistical categories this season, with Bragg tops in blocks (49) and Woodworth a leader in assists (104) and steals (39). Also known for their excellent outside shooting, the duo were two of four players on the Vikings to shoot at least 40 percent from three-point range. Both were named as Division II All-American honorable mentions.

Bragg and Woodworth will take to the court in Slam uniforms for the first time at the team's home opener on April 25 against the Seattle Flight. A 7 p.m. tip-off is scheduled for Whatcom Pavilion.
