WWE Star Sable Coming to Red Barons Game
May 23, 2003 - Women's American Basketball Association (WABA)
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Scream News Release
Rena Mero, a.k.a WWE star Sable will be making a guest appearance at Lackawanna County Stadium June 25. Sable will throw out the first pitch prior to the Red Barons 7:00 p.m. game against the Indianapolis Indians. She will then sign autographs in the concourse after an appearance on the Red Barons radio broadcast.
When Sable and WWE parted ways in 1999 after becoming the women's champion, nobody -- least of all Sable -- ever thought she would return. But, as the saying goes, "never say never" when it comes to WWE. The blonde bombshell and former model made her shocking comeback just days after WrestleMania XIX in April 2003.
As Sable herself pointed out the night of her return, even four years after departing, the men still come to see her, and the women still want to be her. In 1999, in fact, men and women alike clamored to see her when she became the first WWE Diva to pose in Playboy. Sable's edition turned out to be the fastest selling ever. It was so demanded, in fact, the Playboy invited her back for a second shoot, making her the first woman to ever grace the cover of Playboy twice in the same year. She also appeared twice that year on the cover of TV Guide.
Since she was last seen on WWE television, Sable has concentrated on acting. She starred in the 2001 feature film "Corky Romano," alongside "Saturday Night Live" funnyman Chris Kattan. She guest starred on the series "Relic Hunter." And she appeared on numerous talk shows, from "The Tonight Show," to "Politically Incorrect" to the "Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn."
Tickets for the June 25 game to see Sable can be purchased HERE by calling 570-969-2255 or in person at Lackawanna County Stadium's Box Office.

MINOR ACQUIRED, HOLLINS LEAVES TEAM

Minor, 29, was hitting .234 in 37 games at triple-A Fresno. He has eight homers and 21 RBI. Three of the homers came in a game Sunday at New Orleans. He has spent parts of three seasons with the Giants in the majors, 2000, 2001, 2002. In 112 major league games, Minor has hit 13 homers and driven in 33 runs while batting .229. He spent most of last season with the Giants, .237, 10 homers and 24 RBI in 83 games. Minor was the Giants' 12th selection in the June 1996 draft out of the University of Oklahoma. He led the San Francisco minor league system with 126 homers and 446 RBI over a five-year span, 1997-2001. He has a twin brother, Ryan, who is also in professional baseball. To make room on the Red Barons roster first baseman Dave Hollins was placed on the Temporary Inactive List and has since announced his retirement.
TALE OF TWO MONTHS
In 8 games in May, Jim Crowell has a 1.08 ERA giving up six hits and only one earned run. Opponents are hitting .207 vs. the lefty this month with 10K and 4BB in 8.1 innings. THAT'S A LOT OF CLOSE ONES
The Red Barons have certainly had a knack for playing close contests this year. Through 45 games they have already played 18 one-run games (40%) winning 8 and losing 10. One run has decided four of their last five and six of their last eight games. At the current pace they will play an amazing 58 one-run games. In addition, more than half of their games this season have been decided by two runs or less â 23 of 45.
SEFCIK STREAKING
Left-fielder Kevin Sefcik has had a hit in each of his last 8 games, batting .367 with 4 RBI during that time. Sefcik's longest career hit streak came last season when he hit in 20 straight games batting an impressive .419 for the Altoona Curve.
