Sky Blue FC News Release
Somerset, N.J. (Monday, January 9, 2012) - Sky Blue FC of Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) added more championship experience to its roster on Monday, announcing that midfielder Beverly Goebel has agreed to terms with the team. The California native, who is entering her third year as a professional player, spent the 2011 season with the Western New York Flash and eventually won a WPS Championship as a member of the squad.
"We are glad to add Beverly to our roster for 2012," said Sky Blue FC head coach Jim Gabarra, who selected Goebel in the third round of the 2010 WPS Draft when he was with the Washington Freedom. "She is a versatile player who is capable of playing anywhere in the midfield. Since drafting her in 2010, I have been very impressed with her continual improvement on the field. Whenever she has been given an opportunity, she has definitely gotten the job done."
Goebel was a standout collegiate player for the University of Miami, starting 51 times in 53 games for the Hurricanes. After Gabarra and the Freedom made her the 27th overall pick in the 2010 WPS Draft, she proceeded to start in nine matches over 16 appearances during her rookie campaign, contributing a goal to the Washington stat sheet. The following offseason, Goebel made the move to Western New York and helped the Flash raise the WPS Championship Trophy. She started three times in 14 total games during 2011, adding a goal and assist to her offensive career totals.
NOTE: All player signings are subject to WPS approval.
