Women's Football on Tonight Show

Those girls from the National Women's Football Association are at it again...keeping the buzz alive about the exciting new sport of women's full contact football. The league, which has 37 teams in 23 states, recently held open tryouts for the Cincinnati and Louisville expansion teams.

In addition to the outstanding local media attention, the NWFA landed a segment spot on the world famous, Jay Leno and the Tonight Show program. The segment which follows well known intern Ross Mathews, will air on Tuesday, November 11th. "We are simply thrilled that the Tonight Show with Jay Leno thought our league would make a great segment and flew out to produce a special segment with Ross during these tryouts. Being on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno has been a dream of ours since we started," states league Founder and CEO, Catherine Masters. She's not sure why, except she says she really had a dream about the league being on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

Masters says that while her dream may have come true, so have the dreams of thousands of women who have wanted to play full contact football. "When you look into the eyes of our players, you know that they are living their dreams. It's simply time for this to happen and we are thrilled to be a part of creating this type of sports history," she adds.

The Cincinnati team will host a second tryout on Saturday, November 15th at Fairfield Youth Athletic Association Field, 4875 Groh Ln.. Fairfield, OH 45014

Registration will begin at 10:00am. Participants are asked to provide proof of insurance and pay a one time $35.00 tryout fee.

"There were some really great athletes who attended this first tryout and we believe we have the perfect beginnings for another really great team. We also have pretty much decided upon our Head Coach and we'll make a formal announcement on this in the next few days. " states league Vice President, Debby Lening.

The NWFA is gearing up for a huge fourth season with the start of their five year broadcast TV deal with the exciting new Football Network. The league's fourth season begins April 3, 2004, with the World Championship Game being held July 31st in Nashville, Tennessee. "Having our games televised is going to blow the roof off of this sport. And, having a highlight program showcasing these great women is going to put a rocket to this sport. Once people see how talented these women football players are, they'll get hooked. It's nothing short of amazing to watch so many football fans become huge supporters of our league," adds Lening.
