WE NEED YOUR HELP!!

ESPN and the NWFA have been talking for almost four years and still, we can't seem to get the network to broadcast our games even though we are offering to provide the programming to ESPN for FREE. What really confuses us is that they keep telling us that "it's not the programming we are looking for" yet they spend countless hours of their broadcast time on things like the putt putt golf championship, Jump Rope contests, the national spelling bee (since when was that a sport?) and even scrabble. We think it's time that all of the fans of the NWFA sent ESPN a letter telling them that they want to see our games on their network. If you would like to do this, please send your request to: David Berson c/o ESPN ESPN Plaza Bristol, CT 06010

We are hoping that if all of our fans around the country let them know that you support having our games on ESPN, that they might listen. Let's Blast them with requests!

DC DIVAS SET ATTENDANCE WORLD RECORD!

The DC Divas, under new ownership of Paul Hamlin, has set the world record for attendance at a women's football game. More than 8,200 fans attended the first Turkey Bowl which pitted the Divas against the Sports Guys. The game which was promoted as a battle of the sexes was played for the benefit of three charities and was promoted on many radio stations in the Washington, DC area. Fans were asked to bring canned goods for a local food charity and they brought so much that another truck had to be hired to haul the items away! A huge round of applause to the Divas. Whoever said women's football couldn't draw a crowd should have been at that game!!

ILLUSION RETURNS TO FAMILY FIRST GOLF DOME, CONTINUES TRYOUTS

The Erie Illusion Football Team and Family First Sports Park have once again teamed up to provide the Erie women with a state-of-the-art indoor practice facility as the team prepares for its third season in the National Women's Football Association. More than 20 returning players and a crop of new talent will join Illusion Head Coach Bob Beres in the Family First Golf Dome on Jan. 2 as the team launches three months of indoor practices. The ladies will practice on Wednesday and Sunday evenings on the turf under the dome. Family First, an 80-acre, "one-of-a-kind" sports, fitness and recreation center on Oliver Road in Erie, was one of the first local businesses to sign on as an Illusion sponsor last season. Beres said he believes the renewed support of Family First provides his team with a tremendous opportunity for growth and improvement. To further fuel his team's improvement, as well as increase the size of his roster, Beres will also conduct a two-week mini-camp and tryout on Dec. 4, 5 , 11 & 12th at Bayview Park at 2nd & Cherry streets in Erie. The weekend sessions will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday and from 11:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. on Sunday. The second-year mentor hopes to add seven to 10 more women to his team before kicking off his winter practice schedule. Any women 18 years or older are invited and can attend any of the tryouts. YOUNG GIRLS GEARING UP FOR NEW SPRING FOOTBALL LEAGUE

The National Women's Football Association, the largest pro football league in the world for women has announced the formation of the National Girls Football Association.

The NGFA will provide an opportunity for girls in grades 8-12 to play full contact football in a nationally organized league. Similar to the very popular Pop Warner teams, the NGFA will have as many teams as each city needs. "Ever since we started the adult women's league, we have had numerous emails and requests from young women wanting to play football. There are a lot of young girls who don't want to play softball or soccer and this will give them a chance to start on their dreams of playing full contact football. Our league is now going into its fifth year and we feel we have the plan in place to make this happen," states league VP Debby Lening.

Organizers are now seeking interested parents, players and coaches to help run teams in their cities. Anyone interested should contact the NWFA offices at 615-860-4084 or email footballmedia@cs.com. "We are hoping to get our first teams started in cities where we have existing adult teams so that the younger girls will be able to feed into our league," states league CEO, Catherine Masters.
