YOUNG GIRLS GEARING UP FOR NEW SPRING FOOTBALL LEAGUE
The National Women's Football Association, the largest pro football league in the world for women has announced the formation of the National Girls Football Association.
The NGFA will provide an opportunity for girls in grades 8-12 to play full contact football in a nationally organized league. Similar to the very popular Pop Warner teams, the NGFA will have as many teams as each city needs. "Ever since we started the adult women's league, we have had numerous emails and requests from young women wanting to play football. There are a lot of young girls who don't want to play softball or soccer and this will give them a chance to start on their dreams of playing full contact football. Our league is now going into its fifth year and we feel we have the plan in place to make this happen," states league VP Debby Lening.
The new NGFA teams will start playing in the Spring of 2005 but organizers are now seeking interested parents, players and coaches to help run teams in their cities. Anyone interested should contact the NWFA offices at 615-860-4084 or email footballoffice@cs.com. "We are hoping to get our first teams started in cities where we have existing adult teams so that the younger girls will be able to feed into our league," states league CEO, Catherine Masters.

Women's Football Team Opens Training Room
The Austin Outlaws, members of the National Women's Football Association (NWFA), have announced they are opening their training room to the general public.
During the month of October the Austin Outlaws will begin holding "Outlaw Workout Sessions" to help returning players and other interested women learn what it takes to get up to speed physically for the upcoming tryouts. The sessions will be held every Tuesday and Thursday in October at Kealing Middle School, located at 1607 Pennsylvania Avenue, and will start at 6:30pm.
"We're opening these sessions up to the public," says General Manager Lily Messina. "We want everyone there. Not just returning players, but anyone interested in trying out for the team later this year, or just someone wanting to try a different approach to working out. The sessions will be led by the Austin Outlaws 2004 MVP Lori Dillard. "Lori is an incredible athlete. She has an accomplished background and education in strength training, body building, basketball, football - you name it, she's conquered it. We're excited she's getting involved in this manner," adds Messina.
The Outlaws hope to use these workout sessions to provide a hands on look at what someone needs to be prepared to do physically in order to play football. The sessions will focus on increasing speed, strength and agility. Participants will run through drills and exercises designed to work on each of these three areas. "We get alot of feedback from women who are interested in trying out for the team, but don't necessarily know what to do to prepare themselves. We hope to use these sessions as an avenue for them, which will eventually lead them to the tryouts in December. Even if they decide football is not for them, they at least can get a good workout with a great team, " adds Messina.
