Wolves take top spot in coaches poll
June 8, 2005 - arenafootball2 (af2) News Release
CHICAGO - The Manchester Wolves have recaptured the No.1 ranking receiving 216 of a possible 228 points, the arenafootball2 (af2) league office announced today. This is the second time this season that the Wolves have been named the best team in the Weekly Coaches Poll.
The Wolves total includes 10 first-place votes, up four from last week. The No.2 spot goes to last week's top team, the Memphis Xplorers, who are four points behind Manchester with 212 points including eight first-place votes. Receiving one first place tally and securing the No.3 ranking, the Florida Firecats received 196 points. The only other team that received a first-place vote was the No.10 Central Valley Coyotes (1).
The arenafootball2 Week 11 schedule features four matchups of Top 12 teams. On Saturday night at 8:00 p.m. No.6 Blizzard hosts the No.1 Manchester Wolves at the Resch Center in Green Bay. Also at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday night the No.12 ranked Quad City Steamwheelers travel to Memphis to face the No.2 ranked Xplorers. Saturday at 8:30, the No.11 Rio Grande Valley Dorados play host to the No.4 Tulsa Talons at the Tulsa Convention Center. Finally, on Saturday night at 8:30, the No.5 Amarillo Dusters head to Oklahoma City to take on the No.8 ranked Yard Dawgz. All Times Eastern.
Each week during the season af2 coaches will vote for the Top 12 teams in the league by ranking them one through 12 on a ballot. Teams ranked first receive 12 points with the point value decreasing by one for each place below first, meaning a team ranked 12th would receive one point. Total points will determine the Top 12 list. In the event of a tie in total points, the team with the greater number of first-place votes will be ranked higher. The af2 Coaches Poll will be announced every Wednesday during the regular season. Coaches are not allowed to vote for their own team and the poll results have no bearing on postseason qualification.
The complete Top 12 is listed below. The number in parentheses indicates the number of first place votes the team received.
