Manchester Wolves News Release
MANCHESTER, N.H. (January 17, 2004) â Over 130 athletes dressed to impress Manchester Wolves Head Coach Rik Richards today as New Hampshire's newest professional football team held its first open tryout at Rising Stars Sportcenter in Bedford, N.H. Many of the participants were from the New Hampshire area.
Coach Richards and his staff put the potential players through a series of drills and exercises, including the short shuttle, 40-yard dash, bench press, and a number of position drills and one-on-one drills.
Richards felt the event was a great first step in preparation for the Wolves upcoming 2004 season.
"I was really excited about the turnout," Richards said. "There were a few guys out there that were in over their head, but that's expected. But we also had a bunch of good football players in the mix that may help us down the road."
All the participants who came out got a fair chance at making an impression. Five players, however, stood out among the crowd. As a result, Tommy Selecky (FB/LB â Western Maryland College), Andrew Dubiellak (WR/DB â UNLV), Davon Gohagon (OL/DL â American International College), Eric Hiltz (OL/DL â No College) and Rob Green (DB â Massachusetts) were offered contracts by the Wolves. Most notable among the five was Green, who played for the af2's Cincinnati Swarm last season and led the expansion squad in tackles (56.0), interceptions (5) and pass breakups (19).
"I wasn't sure what kind of talent I was going to find here today," Richards said. "I didn't think I'd single out that many guys, but they earned it."
Due to the success and demand of this first tryout, the Wolves may hold another workout in late February or early March. Details of that tryout will be announced if and when they become available.
