Manchester Wolves News Release

The #9 ranked Manchester Wolves would like nothing more then to extend their current win streak to five straight games with a victory over the #4 ranked Florida Firecats this Saturday on Brady Sullivan Field at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester at 7:05 p.m.

The Wolves last defeat came by the hands of the Firecats, 49-27, back on June 13 in Estero, Florida, a game where Manchester was shut out in the second half. Manchester has been firing on all cylinders since with some big victories during their current four-game win streak which include beating the previously #4 ranked South Georgia Wildcats (10-5) and the #1 ranked Wilkes-Barre Scranton Pioneers (14-1).

"I don't know that we're playing our best football, but we are playing better football," said Wolves Head Coach Ben Bennett.

Although the season resembled more of a roller coaster type ride in the early goings Manchester has found some bright spots along the ride which include setting new team and individual franchise records. Maurice Fountain's 13.0 sacks and Allistair Sebastien's seven interceptions are both new single season franchise records along with two new team marks by clinching a playoff birth for the third straight year and boasting two 1,000 yard receivers in Ari Confesor (97 catches, 1175 yards) and Pat Rouzard (97 catches, 1118 yards) for just the second time in franchise history.

With a Wolves win Saturday, Manchester would host the first-round of the American Conference arenafootball2 playoffs for the second year in a row which would also be a new franchise record. The Wolves hosted a second-round playoff game in 2005, a 69-56 loss to the Louisville Fire, and a first-round playoff game last season, a 54-47 win over the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Pioneers.

The Air Force and Brigadier General Suzanne Vautrinot will present the Wolves (9-6) with the prestigious "American Spirit Award" before the kickoff of their July 28 game, entitled "Fan Appreciation Night", against the Florida Firecats (11-4) on Brady Sullivan Field at the Verizon Wireless Arena at 7:05 p.m. Josh Logan will also be on hand to entertain the crowd as he'll perform some of his newest songs during halftime.

The Wolves are currently holding a special auction which started Saturday July 21 at 7:00 p.m. and ends July 28 at 10 p.m. to benefit the Elliot Hospital's Pediatrics Unit in Manchester. Fans will be able to win great prizes all night on the 28th which will include the 20 special Pediatrics jerseys that the Wolves will be wearing in that night's game! All fans have to do is send the text "Wolves", starting this Saturday, to the number "41414" to play. Participants will get charged .99 cents per text with a portion of each text being donated to the Pediatrics Unit. Fans can also buy a jersey directly by placing a $500.00 bid, which will go directly to the Pediatrics Unit.
