Winston-Salem, C-Cats Take SEHL Lead

After two weeks of play in the South East Hockey League, its Huntsville and Winston-Salem in first place. Winston-Salem's Head Coach, Mike LaZazzara, has his team off to a perfect 3-0 start while Huntsville Head Coach, John Gibson, has the Channels Cats starting with a 3-1 record.

Winston-Salem continues its "long and winding road trip" this week in Knoxville while Huntsville finally gets its home opener at the Von Braun Civic Center on Saturday night.

SEHL Players of the Week

Dan Buccella and Jessi Otis of the Huntsville Channel Cats are the SEHL Co-Players of the Week. Both players had a goal in Huntsville's 2-0 win in Cape Fear on Saturday night. In four games played to date, Buccella & Otis have combined for ten of the Channels Cats fourteen goals. Buccella, the native of Woodbridge, Ontario, leads the SEHL in scoring with 5 goals & 2 assists for 7 points. Otis, from Calgary, Alberta, is right behind him with 5 goals & 1 assist for 6 points.

Each of the Huntsville skaters has two power play goals on the year. Jessi Otis has a shorthanded goal and leads the SEHL in shooting percentage at 41.7% (5 goals on 12 shots). Dan Buccella leads the SEHL in game winning goals with three.

SEHL Goaltender of the Week

Matt Carmichael of the Huntsville Channel Cats is the SEHL Goaltender of the Week. Carmichael, from Ottawa, Ontario posted his first shutout of the season, a 2-0 win over Cape Fear on Saturday night, as he stopped all 19 shots he faced. In four games played this season, Matt Carmichael has a 3-1 record with a 2.84 goals against average and a 91.3% save percentage.
